
In a solemn ceremony held on 29th January, 1996,
Mr.N.Surjamani Singh was sworn in as the Judge of the Gauhati High Court
(The High Court of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal
Pradesh).
Born on 1st March, 1946 in the State of Manipur. He was the eldest son of Mr. Nongthombam
Tamphamani Singh and Mrs. Nongthombam Ongbi Tombi Devi.
He got his degree of B.Sc. (Honours) from the Gauhati University. He obtained the degree
of Law and Post Graduate Diploma in Local Self Government Administration from the
Allahabad University in the year, 1970 and topped in the latter.
He joined in the Bar in the year, 1970 and designated as a Senior Advocate on 5th January,
1994. He had been practicing in both the Gauhati High Court as well as Supreme Court of
India. He was an elected member of the Bar Council of North Eastern States and also one of
the members of the Privilege Committee of the State Bar Council till his elevation to his
new assignment as Judge in the Gauhati High Court.
He was also a member of Supreme Court Bar Association, New Delhi and founder Secretary of
the High Court Bar Association of Manipur.
He was the Legal Adviser of many Institutions like the Manipur University, Manipur State
Road Transport Corporation, Manipur State Industrial Development Corporation, State Bank
of India and the Govindaji Temple Board, Manipur.
He was the President, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Meghalaya. He joined
as Judge of the Sikkim High Court at Gangtok w.e.f. 7th January, 2003
. He left for his heavenly abode on Thursday, the 12th July, 2007.
